Choose Table » Insert » Table or click the Insert Table button on the Tables and Borders toolbar. To prevent Word from resizing the columns, insert a table by using the Insert Table dialog box (see Figure 7-1) rather than by clicking the Insert Table button on the Standard toolbar and 'painting' out a table grid. Unfortunately, AutoFit tends to give people fits automatically. Word always wants to help as much as it can, and resizing columns automatically to fit their contents must have seemed like a good idea. You can define how wide the table and/or each column should be in the Table Properties dialog box, but Word then changes the widths according to the text put in the cells. Is there a way to force the pivot table to show all the data, with zeroes for the values when there are none, even when there isn't any data? That would fix the issue.I can't stand the 'artificial intelligence' built into Word's table feature.

Even after the start of the season, the pivot table doesn't work properly until there's at least one win and one loss per division so that there's data in every column/row (which can't happen until mid-June at the earliest). My problem is, when there's no data (say, at the start of the season.) the pivot table is empty, which breaks all the formulas that depend on it. When the table is full of data, this works absolutely great. The pivot table ('Wins By Division', AF-AJ) then collates data on wins and losses per division, which is used by the table in columns O, P, Q, R to calculate win percentages. This then calculates whether the game was won or lost in column I. The user enters the game score in columns G and H (below the green block, as that's ignored by the formula).
